Alfredo Cunhal Sendim & Manuel Calado
Manuel Calado, Archaeologist. PhD from the University of Lisbon, on the subject of “Menhirs of Central Alentejo”. Since the 1980s, his research work has focused mainly on the study of megalithism and rock art in the South of Portugal and the BrazilianAmazon.He is currently collaborating on the Montado do Freixo do Meio project, namely on the creation of MEGA – Interpretative Centre of Alentejo Megalithism, focused on the origins of agriculture and megalithism on a regional scale, and on rock art on a global scale, as well as on the implementation of an open-air museum structure that includes the reconstruction of an Early Neolithic village. Alfredo Cunhal Sendin, Farmer and Coordinator of the Freixo do Meio Protected Area. Living at the Monte da Herdade do Freixo do Meio, since 1990, a territory where, step by step, he has been developing a structuring project in the agricultural and social fields. On this Alentejo estate, Alfredo has represented over the past thirty years the new generation that takes up the challenge of managing this agricultural property as a “Common Good” in a model of interaction with the community and with nature.
